Ingredients

  • 2 cups cold water for dissolving gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin powdered
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for sweetening
  • 1 cup cold water for blooming gelatin
  • 2 cups fruit juice or flavored gelatin for colored layers
  • food coloring optional for vibrant colors

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Rectangular dish or mold
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Pour 1 cup of cold water into a bowl and sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over the surface. Let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom and soften, creating a gelled texture.
2 cups cold water, 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
  2. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Remove from heat.
1 cup granulated sugar, 2 cups cold water
  3. Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot sugar syrup, stirring until the gelatin is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Let it cool slightly for about 10 minutes.
3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin, 1 cup granulated sugar
  4. Divide the cooled mixture evenly into separate bowls—one for each colored layer you want to create. Mix in fruit juice or flavored gelatin powders, and add food coloring if desired, to achieve vibrant hues.
2 cups fruit juice or flavored gelatin, food coloring optional for vibrant colors
  5. Pour one colored layer into the mold, filling about 1/4 inch deep. Place the mold in the refrigerator until the layer is set and firm, around 30 minutes. Repeat with subsequent layers, allowing each to set before adding the next, to build up the stained glass effect.
2 cups fruit juice or flavored gelatin
  6. Once all layers are set, carefully unmold the jello onto a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to cut into geometric shapes or strips, exposing the colorful stained glass segments.

Notes

For more vibrant colors, use gel food colorings. You can also experiment with different flavor combinations for each layer to enhance visual and taste appeal.
