  • 1 tbsp dark chocolate, chopped or semi-sweet
  • 30 ml espresso or strong coffee freshly brewed
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract start with small amount
  • to taste whipped cream dairy or coconut
  • crushed peppermint candies or cocoa powder topping for garnish

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Mug
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Pour the milk into a small saucepan and warm over medium heat, watching until it just begins to simmer with gentle bubbling and a fragrant aroma, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the chopped dark chocolate to the warm milk and whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  3. Brew a shot of espresso or a small amount of strong coffee, about 30 ml, and pour it into your favorite mug.
  4. Pour the hot, chocolate-infused milk over the coffee in the mug, combining the flavors with a gentle stir.
  5. Add 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract to the mixture, stirring well to distribute the refreshing mint flavor evenly. Taste and adjust if desired.
  6. Spoon or pipe a generous dollop of whipped cream onto the top of the drink, creating a soft, airy mound.
  7. Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies or a dusting of cocoa powder over the whipped cream for a festive, crunchy garnish.
  8. Serve immediately while warm, with a cozy feeling and a delightful aroma of mint, chocolate, and coffee filling the air.

Notes

Ensure milk does not boil to prevent scorching. Adjust peppermint to taste for a milder or stronger mint flavor. Use very cold cream for fluffy whipped topping. For a chilled variation, prepare with cold brew and serve over ice.
