Homemade Turkey Meatballs

Turkey meatballs are made by mixing ground turkey with breadcrumbs, eggs, and seasonings, then shaping them into small balls. They are typically baked or pan-fried until browned and cooked through, resulting in tender, juicy bites with a uniform appearance. The final dish showcases evenly shaped, golden-brown meatballs with a moist interior.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey preferably lean
  • 1 cup breadcrumb crumbs plain or seasoned
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • to taste salt and pepper season to preference

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Skillet
  • Cooking spoon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumb crumbs, beaten egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt and pepper. Mix until well integrated, forming a cohesive mixture with a slightly sticky texture.
1 pound ground turkey, 1 cup breadcrumb crumbs, 1 large egg, 2 cloves garlic, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, to taste salt and pepper
  2. Shape the mixture into uniform small balls, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Gently roll each ball to ensure smooth, round surfaces.
  3. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are golden brown and cooked through. You can check doneness by cutting one open; the interior should be no longer pink and juices should run clear.
  4. While baking, heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the baked meatballs and brown them on all sides for about 2-3 minutes, creating a crispy exterior. This step is optional but adds extra texture.
  5. Transfer the browned meatballs to a serving dish or continue with your preferred sauce. Serve hot with pasta, in a sub sandwich, or as an appetizer garnished with additional parsley or sauce as desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, add grated Parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes to the mixture. Using a meat thermometer ensures the internal temperature reaches 165°F for safety and optimal juiciness.
