  • 4 large apples peeled and sliced, preferably Granny Smith or Fuji
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for flavoring apple filling
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice to prevent apples from browning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt enhances flavor

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare your pie dish by lightly greasing it or lining with parchment paper.
  2. Combine 2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press about three-fourths of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the pie dish to form the crust base, pressing firmly and evenly.
  4. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them in a bowl with lemon juice, cinnamon, and remaining sugar until well coated.
  5. Spread the cinnamon-spiced apple slices evenly over the prepared crust inside the pie dish.
  6. Add the remaining crumb mixture on top of the apple filling, spreading it out evenly to create a crunchy crumble topping.
  7. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
