Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider preferably unfiltered and natural
  • 1 orange orange peel preferably from a fresh orange, sliced into strips
  • 2 cinnamon sticks cinnamon sticks for warm spice aroma
  • 1 apple apple sliced into rounds or chunks
  • 4 cloves whole cloves optional, for added warmth
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional for sweetness and depth

Equipment

  • Saucepan or small pot
  • Lid or splash guard

Method

  1. Pour the apple cider into a small saucepan and place it over low to medium heat.
  2. Add the orange peel strips, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves to the cider. Gently stir to combine.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer—small bubbles should start to appear around the edges, filling your space with a warm aroma.
  4. Add the sliced apple pieces to the pot, submerging them slightly into the cider. The apples will soften and release their flavor as they cook.
  5. Let everything simmer gently for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the scents to meld and the cider to thicken slightly.
  6. If desired, stir in a teaspoon of vanilla extract to add a sweet undertone and enhance the cozy fragrance.
  7. Remove from heat when the liquid is fragrant, steaming, and the apple slices are tender. Turn off the stove and remove the cinnamon sticks, but keep the orange peel and cloves for continued aroma release.
  8. Serve the simmering potpourri in a heatproof bowl or simply let it continue to gently steam on your stovetop as a natural room fragrance.

Notes

Keep an eye on the water level to prevent boiling dry. You can add more cider or spice as needed for continued fragrance. For a stronger scent, add more orange peel or vanilla. Always monitor the heat to prevent over-simmering or burning.
